Okay, I suppose the first thing I should say is if you don’t like superhero
movies I suppose you should turn away now. I don’t normally blog about movies,
but in this instance I thought I will.
You’ve probably heard (or at least seen) all the commotion about the
new Batman/Superman movie that’s destined to come out eventually. If that’s the
case then you’ve also probably heard people grumbling at the casting of Ben
Affleck as the new face of Bruce Wayne/Batman. So for what it’s worth, I’m
going to put mine in ... for the sake of it.
I get why people are talking, I really do. There are probably whole slews
of actors out there who (we believe) would better suit the part. But the thing
is this, most of those people are citing Daredevil as a reason for him not to
play the part. I think we sometimes forget there are other parts involved to
making the machine run.
Yeah, Daredevil was poor. It could have been something, but it wasn’t.
And at the risk of being trolled, crucified, and flogged, I’ll say this: only
some of the comic book to film adaptations I’ve seen have worked. Some are just
awful.
For example, if you were to put Ang Lee’s Hulk against Louis Leterrier’s
Incredible Hulk you’d have to pick the latter over the former any day of the
week. Or if you put Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns against Zack Snyder’s Man
of Steel, again, you’d pick the latter.
Every time we walk into the cinema, it’s a gamble.
Sure, we have expectations. Sometimes they’re met. Sometimes they’re
not.
Take it on the chin and move on.
Alternatively, better still; wait until your friends have seen it. At
least then, you’ll have saved yourself a couple of bucks, right?
