Not so long ago I set myself the challenge of writing a novelette by
the tick of midnight. Needless-to-say I failed. I started at roughly 10 a.m.
with a notion of the story I wanted to tell. By midnight, I found myself
falling short by a couple of chapters. I don’t mind, but it would have been
nice to finish it the same day as I’d originally planned. However, the truth is
I don’t think I could have pushed on any further without ruining the last
part(s).
Still, it was an interesting experience.
The story itself, Shelby, will be part of a
planned three-story book called Tortured Souls. Two of the three stories are now
written and awaiting the editing process, while the third, Onryō, is currently well underway.
By the way,
if you’re the type of person who’s apt to go looking for the meaning of a word
(Onryō, in this case) I should say that I’ve only used both name and meaning
because it fit neatly into what I wanted to write about and what material I
already had.
Suffice to say I’ll outline all three stories soon. But
not right now. Right now I have a five year old begging for my attention, a
coffee pot getting cold, and an empty mug. I have to deal with all three of
these things first.
